Why a Princeton Grad Chose to Be a Roommate Through Homies?

When Beth graduated from Princeton University—one of the most prestigious schools in the country—she could’ve taken many paths. But instead of heading into a traditional post-grad lifestyle, she made a bold and deeply compassionate decision: to become a supportive roommate through Homies, helping someone with a disability build an independent, meaningful life.

That someone was Nicholas.

Nicholas had moved to Los Angeles from Colorado with big dreams—but no support system. Navigating LA alone, especially while on the autism spectrum, proved incredibly difficult. With no family nearby and challenges that weren’t always visible to others, he found himself in and out of homelessness, simply trying to survive.

Nicholas is served by Westside Regional Center, but even with that support, finding safe and meaningful housing proved incredibly difficult—until his mom discovered Homies. Together, we created a profile that reflected Nicholas’ vibrant personality—his love of musicals, the beach, and meaningful connection. We were looking for someone kind, grounded, and open-hearted.

We found that in Beth.

Beth had recently accepted a teaching job in Los Angeles and was looking for a living situation with purpose. When she read Nicholas’ profile, she saw not just a housing opportunity—but the chance to build something truly special. After several meetups, they agreed to move in together. Their shared love of theater, music, and community made their bond feel natural and joyful.

Fast forward to today, and Nicholas’ life has completely transformed.

✔ He has a full-time job
✔ He’s part of multiple social clubs
✔ He lives in one of the best neighborhoods in LA

But most importantly, he has a home—one rooted in stability, friendship, and belonging. His mom shared that this is the most stable he has ever been in his life.

At Homies, we’re reimagining what it means to live together. We’re not just creating housing—we’re building life-sharing partnerships that uplift both individuals. Beth’s story is proof that empathy-driven innovation can attract passionate, mission-oriented people from all walks of life—including the Ivy League.

We’re proud to work alongside Westside Regional Center to make matches like Nicholas and Beth possible—and to create a future where everyone, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive in community.
